Hello Everyone,
June 24 at Tree Kangaroo Café was just a marvellous evening. In addition to the great food and atmosphere (thanks to Janet Condon and staff) we warmed up with a Mensa Puzzle to clear our minds for some lateral thinking concerning how the weather affects business.
While Liz Hughes was the Mensa winner, others certainly had some wild and whacky ideas for Guest Speaker, Gerard Kath ranging from ‘just sell out and join the grey nomads’, to ‘the grey nomads could be the new teenage workforce’ and ‘menopausal workers won’t care about the weather because they’re both hot and cold’! Apologies if I have misquoted.
Gerard did remind us that business in not just about hard work, planning and management; it is about believing in and enjoying what you do.

 |
His words reminded me of what Connie Duncan said last October – that it sometimes requires a leap of faith. Congratulations to Gerard, his family and work team for their achievement as one of the top three operations in Australia in 2008.
Following up on the WD40 tests:
- Angie Lewis – Restore and clean chalkboards – (not present)
- Sarah-Kaye Page – Loosen stubborn zippers – (smug smile indicated success)
- Maria Pesavento – Keep ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing – (Still at Step 1 meaning hasn’t done anything about it)
- Ann Cork – Remove black scuff marks from the kitchen floor – (also still at Step 1)
- Nadine Kung – Keep rust from forming on saws, saw blades, and other tools - (Lesley said this would never happen)
- Lesley Gilbride – Remove lipstick from clothing – (Lesley said makes more mess but guest Sharyn Jones said it works)
I found another use. Thinking that if it could make the stove top shine, so it would my car. Sprayed it on and polished bit by bit. Looked fantastic for a whole day. Downside – the dust sticks to it! I have to work on doing things by halves.
Thanks to Don Sheppard (Guest Speaker Coordinator) and Lesley Gilbride (Treasurer) for outlining your committee roles at the June dinner. Please do contact any committee member or myself for further information if you are thinking about standing for a committee position in September. Remember you must be a financial member to stand. Positions available are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Guest Speaker Coordinator, Venue Coordinator, Publicity Officer, Sponsorship Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Meet and Greet Officer.
Congratulations to Liz Hughes on the sale of her business but it is our loss as Liz will be moving south. Our best wishes go with you for the future.
Well done to organisers of the Malanda and Atherton Shows. As with most events, they run smoothly on the surface but someone is paddling hard under the water. Thanks to the Show Society members and volunteers for their dedication and hard work. Listening to the squeals of delight coming from the rides put a smile on my face.
CHRISTMAS PARTY – JULY 22 – “THE LODGE” TINAROO 6PM -
FINAL REMINDER:
- Reservations must be made and paid for by July 14 (Lesley Gilbride - treasurer@tbwn.com.au) ($30 members, $35 guests)
- We need 50 people to proceed
- Grab your gran, bring your husband and friends
- Secret Santa gifts ($10 or under and completely frivolous) to Sarah-Kaye by July 16 - email
Get ready for a fun packed evening you will long remember PLUS a three course Christmas Dinner & Prizes galore (including 2 nights for 2 people at Lake Tinaroo Resort). If you wish to participate for a special prize, dress code is Christmas colours.
See you at Christmas in July for fun and friendship!

Celebrating Leslie’s new blog – the way to see photos and read about weddings in our community. I decided to write the blog in response to many requests from people to hear and see what is happening in the wonderful world of weddings. There are tips for the big day, stories about challenges for brides and grooms as well as unexpected problems we have overcome. If you have a story to tell, let me know. I hope you enjoy reading about my world as much as I love writing about it.
