president's letter
Hello Everyone,
Thanks to you Christmas in July was truly great. It was full of laughter, friendship and hilarious moments. Congratulations to the many prize winners and our donors, particularly Carmel Pacey who never lets us down, Tinaroo Lake Resort for a beautiful venue and their accommodation prize, Paul at The Disk Shop Cairns for the $180 computer package and Lesley Gilbride for the Christmas cake. Sincere thanks also firstly, secondly and thirdly to all committee members – I keep saying they’re a marvelous team; Wayne Page for ‘Jaws’ and the music throughout the evening, and to everyone for dressing in Christmas mode. Some very creative outfits made the night come alive.

We were in fine voice for ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ and it was a special moment when the lights were dimmed and candles lit for ‘Silent Night’. However, the highlight of the night was the friendly rivalry between the groups in the dance competition.

Leslie Tye-Parsons, President TBWN
All were closely placed in the Haka, Time Warp and Nutbush but the clear winners were Gina Raccanello, Anne Cork, Sylvia Nelms & Sherryn Rendall ably led by Tess Peachey (who also won the accommodation prize).

wd40And yes, thanks to Maria, we have the photos to prove what we all did! Click here to view now. Photos will be on display at the August dinner.

Following up on the WD40 tests: Maria Pesavento has moved on from Step 1 (photo at left) and has an experiment underway to keep ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing. Results due in a year! Everyone else who is still at Step 1 – we are still awaiting your results but not holding our breath!

See you at Snibbles in the Rainforest.
Leslie Tye-Parsons President

Confucius says: “The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved”.

Leslie Tye-Parsons from Atherton WeddingsCelebrating Leslie’s new blog – the way to see photos and read about weddings in our community.  I decided to write the blog in response to many requests from people to hear and see what is happening in the wonderful world of weddings. There are tips for the big day, stories about challenges for brides and grooms as well as unexpected problems we have overcome.   If you have a story to tell, let me know.  I hope you enjoy reading about my world as much as I love writing about it.

business tips
bulletA way to save money: Order less stationary and use wisely. How often have you thrown out business cards/brochures because your phone number changed?

bulletA way to keep clients: Turn a lemon into lemonade. When you make a mistake, give the client a stunning response. You will show you really do care and win the customer’s support.

bulletTo maximise your marketing efforts: Danae Jones, CEO of In Touch Media, says ‘review your annual marketing budget – if you don’t have one, create one. How are people going to hear about you if you aren’t out there telling them?

bulletScared to ask for a pay rise? Bosses may be happier to talk dollars if you demonstrate how much money you’ve made and saved the business, so keep a record of all your contributions and achievements. Give the boss time to think it over. If the answer is still no, ask when you may expect to have your pay reviewed. Don’t take it personally.
