We are pleased to have Queensland Rural Women of the Year finalist, Geraldine McGuire as our guest speaker this month as we enjoy dinner at the fabulous Platypus Bend Eco Retreat, Malanda. |

Geraldine McGuire is Director of Rainforest Bounty Pty Ltd, a joint venture company involving three native fruit growers on the Atherton Tableland who passionately believe in farming native species as sustainable horticultural crops.
The business manufactures high quality condiments and conserves from Davidson plum, lemon aspen and lillypilly species. Geraldine is also a member of the Far North Queensland Native Food Association. Geraldine has both experience and qualifications in agricultural and environmental science.

| She is committed to empowering rural and Aboriginal women in northern Queensland through education about growing and value-adding native fruit. Her focus on increasing farm-based manufacturing will support the employment of people in the region. Geraldine is also principal of Sustainable Solutions Consultancy and has 15 years of both operational and consulting experience undertaking projects in Australia, Indonesia, PNG and Laos. |

where: Platypus Bend Eco Retreat, RN66 Lindsay Rd, Malanda, view map. Directions: Opposite the Malanda High School and Mobil Service Station (used to be BP) turn into Glen Allyn Rd, follow for approximately 4 klm's turning left into Lindsay Rd (unsealed), follow for 660 metres, drive through the gate and over the bridge then follow the road to the left to their "Cafe on the River".
cost: $25 pp (members) $28.50 (non-members)
Menu:
- Warm ‘nibbles’ to start followed by:
- Slow cooked organic tablelands ‘Happy Beef’ beef ribs marinated in ‘Rainforest Bounty’ Spicy Rainforest Plum sauce;
- Vegetarian ravioli with our home made roasted capsicum, tomato and basil sauce; Green salad (mesculin mix, tomato, cucumber, red onion, capsicum and carrot sprinkled with toasted pepitas, sunflower seeds and flaked almonds);
- Warm bread rolls and butter;
- Pecan pie with fresh whipped cream;
- Tea or coffee (instant) and cold water
Extra's available on night:
- Cappuccino/latte/long black etc. - $3.00
- Calmer Sutra fresh Chai tea (this is a ‘wet chai’ with 8 different spices including cinnamon quills, cardamom pods and star anise flowers blended with fresh ginger root, pure honey and lush Formosan tea and is 98% caffeine free - $3.00
- Beer - $4.00 per can or stubbie
- Wine - from $5.00 per glass or $18.00 per bottle
- Cold drinks (soft drink, bottled water) - $2.00
